Google Confirms Gemini AI Is Coming to Cars and Smartwatches Later This Year
Google has officially announced that its powerful AI assistant, Gemini, will soon expand beyond smartphones to cars and smartwatches. The integration will roll out via Android Auto for vehicles and Wear OS for smartwatches, marking a significant step toward a unified AI experience across Google’s ecosystem.
The announcement came from CEO Sundar Pichai during Alphabet’s Q1 earnings call. “We’re upgrading Google Assistant on mobile devices to Gemini, and later this year we’ll upgrade tablets, cars, and devices that connect to your phone, such as headphones and watches,” Pichai said.
This move signals Google’s broader ambition to make Gemini the centrepiece of its AI strategy, not just on phones, but across all connected devices. It mirrors the company’s earlier approach with Google Assistant but with a more advanced, generative AI foundation.
While the announcement confirmed the expansion, Pichai did not offer a specific launch date, simply stating it would happen “later this year.” That timeline could potentially align with Google’s usual hardware launch window in the fall, possibly alongside the next Pixel phone release.
Even without an exact release date, this confirmation hints at deeper AI-driven integration across Android devices, promising smarter interactions and a more seamless user experience between phones, cars, wearables, and beyond.
