Key Projects Under Swadesh Darshan and Related Schemes
Under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme, Bihar has received approvals for several projects, such as the development of the Tirthankar Circuit (Vaishali-Arrah-Masad-Patna-Rajgir-Pawapuri-Champapuri) with a sanctioned cost of ₹33.96 crore and the Buddhist Circuit with construction of a Convention Centre in Bodh Gaya costing ₹95.18 crore.
Swadesh Darshan 2.0 focuses on upgrading Bodh Gaya with the development of a Buddhist Meditation & Experience Centre sanctioned at ₹165.44 crore. Similarly, the CBDD Scheme will enhance tourist facilities at the Sonepur Mela Ground in Saran for ₹24.29 crore, supporting cultural and heritage tourism.
SASCI and PRASHAD Initiatives in Bihar
Under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI), Bihar received funding for two major projects: the development of Matsyagandha Lake in Saharsa (₹97.61 crore) and the Karamchat Eco-Tourism and Adventure Hub (₹49.51 crore), both aimed at enhancing tourism infrastructure to global standards.
The PRASHAD Scheme has also contributed to Bihar’s pilgrimage sites, including development works at Patna Sahib (₹29.62 crore), Vishnupad Temple, Gaya (₹3.63 crore), and Ambika Bhawani Temple, Saran (₹13.29 crore), ensuring improved facilities for pilgrims and visitors alike.
Promoting Nalanda on the Global Stage
These initiatives under SD, SD2.0, CBDD, PRASHAD, and SASCI reflect India’s strategy to position Nalanda as an iconic tourist destination, integrating historical, spiritual, and cultural experiences. The government aims to attract both domestic and international tourists while promoting sustainable and inclusive tourism development.
The Ministry emphasizes synergy between State Governments and central schemes to ensure timely execution of projects, efficient resource utilization, and long-term tourism growth in Bihar.
