Governor of Sikkim Meets PM Modi in New Delhi

New Delhi, November 4: The Governor of Sikkim, Shri Om Prakash Mathur, met Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in New Delhi today. The meeting underscored the Centre’s continued commitment to supporting Sikkim’s growth and strengthening the cooperative federal structure of India.

Focus on Development and Federal Cooperation

The meeting is seen as part of ongoing efforts to enhance coordination between the Centre and Sikkim, a state known for its environmental leadership and strategic location in India’s northeastern region. Discussions likely focused on infrastructure development, tourism promotion, and sustainable growth strategies for the Himalayan state.

Governor Mathur’s visit comes at a time when the Central Government continues to prioritize development in the Northeastern states through various flagship schemes like the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS) and other connectivity initiatives.

PM Modi’s Vision for Sikkim

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has often highlighted Sikkim’s achievements in organic farming and ecological conservation. During the brief meeting, both leaders are believed to have discussed ways to leverage Sikkim’s success stories in sustainable development and youth engagement.

In a post shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi said, “Governor of Sikkim, Shri @OmMathur_Raj met Prime Minister @narendramodi.” The official X handle of the Sikkim Raj Bhavan also confirmed the meeting.

Strengthening Ties for Inclusive Growth

Governor Om Prakash Mathur, who assumed office earlier this year, has been actively engaging with stakeholders to promote balanced development and good governance in Sikkim. His meeting with the Prime Minister further reinforces the state’s alignment with the national vision of inclusive and sustainable progress.

Observers suggest that such high-level meetings play an important role in ensuring that state-specific issues receive timely attention from the Centre, particularly in regions with unique geographical and developmental challenges.

About Shri Om Prakash Mathur

Before taking charge as Governor of Sikkim, Shri Om Prakash Mathur served as a senior leader in national politics and has extensive experience in governance and policy. His appointment reflects the Centre’s focus on strengthening leadership in the Northeastern states.

Both leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to furthering the principles of cooperative federalism, ensuring that development benefits reach the remotest parts of India, including the northeastern frontiers.
