The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports has opened nominations for the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award (TNNAA) 2024. These prestigious awards aim to honour individuals who have demonstrated remarkable courage, discipline, and leadership in the field of adventure.
Nominations are being accepted online through the official portal awards.gov.in until 15th July 2025. Individuals and organizations involved in adventure activities are encouraged to apply before the deadline.
Celebrating the Spirit of Adventure
The Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Awards, named after the legendary mountaineer who conquered Mount Everest in 1953, are presented annually by the Government of India. The awards serve as an incentive for the youth to pursue adventure and develop qualities such as endurance, teamwork, risk-taking, and quick reflexes.
The Ministry aims to spotlight real-life adventurers who inspire others with their determination and achievements in extreme conditions—whether on land, water, or in the air.
Categories and Award Details
Generally, one award is given in each of the following categories:
- Land Adventure
- Water (Sea) Adventure
- Air Adventure
- Lifetime Achievement for continued excellence in any adventure domain
The award includes:
- A bronze statuette
- A certificate of achievement
- A blazer with a silken tie or saree
- A cash prize of ₹15 lakh
This combination makes TNNAA one of India’s highest civilian recognitions in the adventure domain.
Who Can Apply?
Eligible applicants must have a consistent and outstanding track record in adventure sports or exploration. This includes mountaineers, divers, paragliders, trekkers, and other athletes involved in high-risk outdoor pursuits.
Nominees must display exceptional leadership, team spirit, and commitment to advancing adventure activities in India. Detailed eligibility criteria and guidelines can be accessed on the Ministry’s website at yas.nic.in.
Apply Online Before July 15
All applications must be submitted exclusively through the National Awards Portal by 15 July 2025. Physical applications or late submissions will not be considered.
Adventure clubs, sports bodies, state governments, and institutions are also encouraged to nominate deserving individuals who exemplify the spirit of exploration and courage.
Past Legacy and Future Inspiration
Past winners of TNNAA include iconic names like Bachendri Pal, India’s first woman to climb Mount Everest, and Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma, India’s first astronaut. These trailblazers continue to inspire a new generation of explorers.
The Government hopes that this recognition will fuel more participation in adventure sports, boost tourism, and create global ambassadors for India’s growing adventure ecosystem.
