Heavy Rain Forecast in 7 Bihar Districts: IMD Alert Issued

Southwest monsoon brings heavy rainfall to parts of Bihar, including Araria and Kishanganj.

Monsoon Covers Entire State

The southwest monsoon has finally embraced Bihar in full force. After weeks of dry spells and rising heat, the recent spell of rain has brought much-needed respite to both urban and rural areas. Several districts across the state experienced moderate to heavy showers on Friday, marking the official onset of monsoon season.

According to meteorologists, the monsoon has progressed steadily from southern and eastern parts of India into Bihar, and it is expected to remain active over the next few days.

Districts Likely to See Heavy Rainfall Today

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rain in at least seven districts of Bihar on Saturday. These include:

  • Araria
  • Kishanganj
  • Purnia
  • Buxar
  • Rohtas
  • Kaimur
  • Aurangabad

In addition, other areas such as Gaya, Sheikhpura, and Madhepura have reported moderate rainfall. These showers have helped cool down the temperature and have improved the water levels in several reservoirs and ponds.

IMD Issues Orange and Yellow Alerts

With monsoon rains gaining intensity, the IMD has issued an orange alert for 13 districts, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and localized heavy rainfall. These districts are:

  • Supaul
  • Araria
  • Kishanganj
  • Purnia
  • Katihar
  • Madhepura
  • Saharsa
  • Buxar
  • Bhojpur
  • Rohtas
  • Kaimur
  • Aurangabad
  • Arwal

For the rest of Bihar, a yellow alert has been issued, indicating a possibility of light to moderate rain and occasional thunderstorms. Residents are advised to remain cautious and avoid stepping outdoors unless necessary.

Temperature to Stay Pleasant

The weather department has also indicated a pleasant temperature trend over the next three days. The maximum temperatures are likely to range between 30°C and 32°C, while the minimum temperature is expected to remain around 24°C to 26°C.

Districts like Bhagalpur, Purnia, Gaya, Aurangabad, Sheikhpura, Munger, Banka, and Katihar recorded cooler daytime highs. Patna reported a maximum of 30.5°C, while Darbhanga saw the lowest minimum at 23.6°C.

People in Patna advised to stay indoors as lightning and thunderstorms continue across Bihar.

Safety Advisory for Residents

With lightning strikes and wind gusts expected in certain areas, the IMD has issued safety advisories urging people to stay indoors during stormy conditions. Farmers, construction workers, and daily wage laborers have been specifically advised to suspend outdoor activities during peak rainfall hours.

Local authorities have also been instructed to keep emergency response teams ready, especially in low-lying areas prone to waterlogging. Schools in some districts have issued weather-related advisories to parents.

Impact on Agriculture and Daily Life

The rainfall is expected to be beneficial for sowing activities in major agricultural belts of Bihar. Farmers who were awaiting monsoon rains for paddy transplantation can now begin fieldwork. However, authorities have also warned of possible damage if lightning and strong winds persist.

In urban areas, the rain brought traffic slowdowns and brief power cuts in places like Patna, Gaya, and Purnia. Municipal corporations have been asked to remain alert to prevent waterlogging and clogged drains.
