Heavy Rains Hit Telangana, Odisha & Delhi: IMD Alert

RR Team, August 13, 2025August 13, 2025

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy to very heavy rainfall across Telangana for the next 72 hours starting Wednesday, August 13, 2025. Along with Telangana, Odisha and Delhi are also experiencing intense monsoon activity, causing disruptions and prompting safety warnings from state authorities.

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has issued strict directives to all departments to implement precautionary measures and avoid loss of life. A video conference was held with district collectors and senior officials emphasizing the importance of restricting vehicular movement on flooded bridges, canals, streams, and low-lying causeways.

Telangana Braces for Torrential Rains

In response to the IMD warning, the Telangana government has prepared safety protocols to protect residents and livestock. Special focus has been placed on safeguarding cattle, goats, and sheep while crossing fast-flowing streams in vulnerable districts.

The state’s disaster management teams remain on high alert, coordinating efforts from the Command Control Centre. Officials have also urged citizens to stay updated on weather advisories and avoid unnecessary travel during peak rainfall periods.

Monsoon Impacts Continue in Odisha and Delhi

Odisha faces heavy rains for the next three days as the Bay of Bengal witnesses the formation of a low-pressure area, influenced by an upper air cyclonic circulation. IMD’s Bhubaneswar Centre director Manorama Mohanty said thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected to affect large parts of the state.

Meanwhile, Delhi experienced overnight downpours on August 12, leading to waterlogging in several areas. The heavy rains are expected to persist, further impacting daily life and traffic.

Himachal Pradesh Continues to Face Severe Monsoon Effects

The monsoon’s toll in Himachal Pradesh remains grave, with the death count rising to 240. The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) reports major disruptions in infrastructure, including damage to 330 roads, 198 electricity distribution transformers, and 141 water supply schemes in the past 24 hours.

Authorities continue rescue and relief operations to support affected communities as the state braces for ongoing monsoon challenges.

Stay Prepared and Safe

With heavy rains expected across multiple states, the IMD advises citizens to remain vigilant, avoid flooded areas, and follow official instructions. State governments continue to monitor weather developments closely and prepare for rapid response to emergencies.
