Hemant Soren was sworn in as the 14th Chief Minister of Jharkhand on Thursday in a ceremony held in Ranchi. This marks his fourth term as the Chief Minister of the state. The 49-year-old leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has been at the helm of the state’s politics for several years.
The event saw the presence of several key political figures, including Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi (Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha), and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee. The oath was administered by Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar.

In the recent assembly elections, Hemant Soren secured his seat in Barhait, winning by a margin of 39,791 votes over BJP’s Gamliyel Hembrom. The JMM-led INDIA bloc emerged victorious, winning 56 out of 81 seats in the assembly, while the BJP-led NDA secured 24 seats.
To mark the occasion, schools in Ranchi were closed on Thursday for the swearing-in ceremony. Soren took the oath alone, with plans for a cabinet expansion after the assembly vote of confidence.
Other prominent political leaders who attended the ceremony included Akhilesh Yadav (Samajwadi Party Chief), Bhagwant Mann (Punjab CM), Arvind Kejriwal, Raghav Chadha, Sanjay Singh (AAP), Tejashwi Yadav (Bihar Opposition Leader), Udhayanidhi Stalin (DMK), and DK Shivakumar (Karnataka Deputy CM). With the elections behind him, Hemant Soren now faces the task of fulfilling the promises made to the people of Jharkhand during the campaign.
