Honouring Tribal Legacy: Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh

RR Team, November 3, 2025November 4, 2025
India is witnessing a wave of cultural pride and community participation as nationwide celebrations mark Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh Pakhwada (1–15 November 2025). The event commemorates the 150th Birth Anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, fondly known as ‘Dharti Aaba’, who symbolizes the courage and unity of India’s tribal communities.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this initiative aims to celebrate the contributions of tribal communities while promoting inclusion, education, and welfare. Across the country, states and union territories are hosting cultural performances, exhibitions, and outreach programs highlighting India’s rich tribal traditions.

Empowering Tribal Youth and Preserving Culture

In the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, a Career Guidance Programme was organized to equip tribal students with skills and information about higher education and vocational opportunities. Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh conducted a Plantation Drive emphasizing environmental harmony and organized a Heritage Rally at ITDA PVP to raise awareness about welfare initiatives.

Jammu & Kashmir launched a series of community-driven projects, including health camps, workshops for traditional healers, and surveys for PVTG benefit coverage. The region also started documenting success stories, digitizing data of Scheduled Tribe beneficiaries, and promoting digital preservation of tribal languages and scripts.

Creative activities like painting competitions at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya in Durbuk encouraged young minds to express pride in their heritage through art and storytelling.

Cultural Showcases Across States

In Karnataka, tribal students showcased their art through dance, drama, and storytelling competitions held at Ashrama School, Kolipalya. These performances celebrated the vibrancy of tribal culture and creativity.

Nagaland’s Eklavya Model Residential School in Tuensang hosted a poetry competition, allowing students to express their pride in tribal identity through language and literature. In Odisha, a large-scale Exhibition on Tribal Life and Culture highlighted the rich traditions and diversity of the state’s indigenous communities.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan is conducting Benefit Saturation Camps via e-Mitra centers in collaboration with the District Administration to ensure doorstep access to government welfare schemes for tribal households. Uttar Pradesh organized creative competitions in schools essay writing, painting, poetry, and rangoli focusing on tribal freedom fighters and folklore.

A Nationwide Movement for Tribal Pride

The Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh Pakhwada is not only a cultural celebration but a reflection of India’s collective gratitude towards its tribal communities. From environmental conservation drives to language preservation and youth empowerment, the activities emphasize holistic development with respect for tribal heritage.

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs, under Union Minister Shri Jual Oram, continues to lead this initiative, ensuring that every tribal community benefits from government programs and gains a stronger voice in India’s growth story. The celebrations embody the spirit of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas”, reaffirming India’s commitment to inclusivity and unity in diversity.
