IAF & EAC Cup Races Shine at RCTC 2026

RR Team, February 25, 2026February 26, 2026
The prestigious Indian Air Force (IAF) Cup and Eastern Air Command (EAC) Cup races were conducted with great splendour at the historic Royal Calcutta Turf Club (RCTC) on February 25, 2026. The annual fixtures, instituted in 1996, celebrate the enduring association between the Indian Air Force and one of India’s oldest racing institutions.

Historic Venue with Royal Legacy

Founded in 1847, the Royal Calcutta Turf Club was granted the ‘Royal’ title in 1912 and remains among the country’s most prestigious horse racing organisations. Over the decades, it has maintained a close association with the armed forces, regularly hosting the IAF and EAC Cup races as a tribute to the Air Force’s heritage and contributions.

The 2026 edition once again showcased the club’s rich tradition, combining sporting excellence with ceremonial dignity.

Air Chief Marshal AP Singh Graces the Event

Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, Chief of the Air Staff, attended the event as Chief Guest. He distributed prizes to the winners alongside Air Marshal IS Walia, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Air Command.

The presence of senior defence leadership underscored the importance of the event in fostering camaraderie among the services and strengthening bonds with the civilian community.

Winners of the IAF and EAC Cups

This year’s IAF Cup was won by Antony Raj S., riding Abhicandra, owned by Mr. Vikram Bachhawat. The victory marked a highlight of the day, drawing applause from racing enthusiasts and defence officials alike.

The EAC Cup was lifted by MS Deora on his charger Laguna Seca. The horse is owned by M/s Caimhill Stud Farms Pvt Ltd and M/s Sarainaga Racing Pvt Ltd. The competition reflected high standards of equestrian skill and sportsmanship.

Celebrating Defence Unity

The Chief of the Air Staff lauded the event as a meaningful platform to nurture camaraderie and reinforce the bond between the armed forces and the broader community. The occasion witnessed enthusiastic participation and attendance from senior officers of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard.

The collective presence of all three services highlighted unity within India’s defence establishment and the shared spirit that defines the armed forces.

IAF Band Adds to the Splendour

An enthralling performance by the Indian Air Force Band added grandeur to the day’s proceedings. The band captivated the audience with harmonious renditions, embodying the pride and tradition of the Air Force.

The musical performance complemented the sporting action on the turf, creating an atmosphere of celebration and honour.

A Tradition Since 1996

Since their institution in 1996, the IAF and EAC Cup races have grown into landmark events on the racing calendar. They not only promote equestrian excellence but also serve as a symbol of the enduring relationship between the Indian Air Force and the Royal Calcutta Turf Club.

Through such events, the armed forces continue to engage with civil society in meaningful ways, reinforcing mutual respect and understanding.

The successful conduct of the IAF and EAC Cup races in 2026 stands as yet another example of how sport, heritage and service traditions can come together to celebrate national pride and unity.
