A Big Push for Innovation as India Rises in DeepTech
Dr Singh highlighted India’s rapid growth in science and technology over the past decade, describing it as a “historic leap.” The country now hosts over 6,000 DeepTech startups, the national bioeconomy has expanded nearly 14 times, and investment in R&D has doubled.
He further noted that India’s space sector has opened to private players, giving rise to an $8 billion space economy. The launch of the National Quantum Mission has also created a powerful push for home-grown quantum technology innovation.
“This is not just progress. India is shaping the future. And the next breakthrough can come from you,” Dr Singh said in his message.
What the Nationwide Innovation Challenge Seeks
The challenge invites submissions in fields such as AI, quantum technology, space, biotechnology, climate tech, healthcare, agriculture, education and other emerging domains. Participants are expected to submit one innovation that has the potential to improve the lives of at least 1,000 people.
Entries can include concepts, prototypes or pilot models, provided they clearly demonstrate purpose, innovation and scope for scaling up. The Ministry has assured that even early-stage ideas will be considered if they show potential.
Support for Winners During IISF 2025
The most promising innovations will be recognised during IISF 2025 and receive structured support from India’s top science bodies including DST, DBT, CSIR and BIRAC. Dr Jitendra Singh has also committed to personally mentor the leading innovations, helping them strengthen and scale their concepts.
The initiative aims to transform classrooms, community labs, workshops, farms and local maker spaces into hubs of high-impact innovation. The Minister emphasised that this is the right time for India to harness grassroots talent, as the nation’s scientific ecosystem is stronger and more accessible than ever.
Calling Gen Z and the Nation’s Innovators
In a direct message to young innovators, Dr Singh said: “To all innovators, especially Gen Z: India is listening.”
As the country prepares for IISF 2025, the challenge seeks to ignite scientific curiosity and encourage citizens to contribute to India’s journey toward self-reliance. The Ministry believes that scalable Indian innovations can help address major global challenges and strengthen the nation’s scientific leadership.
“Let us build the future with science. Let us innovate for Aatmanirbhar Bharat,” Dr Singh concluded.
