Leadership in a Changing Security Environment
General Dwivedi highlighted the evolving and complex nature of the modern security landscape, which now spans military, technological and societal domains. Referring to Operation SINDOOR, he underscored the importance of seamless coordination between diplomacy and decisive military action in contemporary warfare.
He noted that the Indian Army continues to modernise rapidly through innovation and technological advancement, and emphasised that the newly commissioned officers will play a crucial role in steering this transformation. Leadership under uncertainty, adaptability and sound judgement, he said, will define the challenges of the future battlefield.
Ethical Leadership and Mentorship
Urging young officers to lead by example, the COAS stressed the importance of ethical conduct, moral courage and composure during crises. He encouraged them to be mentors and role models for their troops, fostering trust, discipline and creative thinking within their units.
Quoting the wisdom of Chanakya, General Dwivedi reminded the passing-out course that material possessions and life itself are transient, but Dharma—righteousness and duty—remains eternal. He called upon every officer to uphold honour, loyalty and courage throughout their service.
International Camaraderie and Gratitude
The Army Chief also commended the 34 foreign Officer Cadets from 14 friendly nations who successfully completed their training at the Academy. He observed that the bonds formed at IMA symbolise enduring friendships that strengthen defence cooperation and mutual trust between nations.
Acknowledging the role of instructors and academy staff, General Dwivedi praised their dedication in shaping resilient and capable officers. He also expressed gratitude to the parents and families of the cadets, thanking them on behalf of a grateful nation for their sacrifices and trust.
Commissioning and Awards
A total of 525 Officer Cadets from various courses including the 157th Regular Course, 46th Technical Entry Scheme Course, 140th Technical Graduate Course, 55th Special Commissioned Officers Course and the Territorial Army Online Entrance Exam 2023 Course were commissioned. Their commissioning signifies both the strengthening of India’s defence leadership and the continuity of military partnerships with friendly countries.
During the ceremony, outstanding cadets were honoured with prestigious awards. Academy Cadet Adjutant Nishkal Dwivedi received the Sword of Honour and the Gold Medal for standing first in the overall order of merit. Several other medals were awarded across technical, special commission and foreign cadet categories, while the Chief of the Army Staff Banner for overall excellence was awarded to Imphal Company.
Antim Pag and a New Journey Begins
The parade culminated with the traditional ‘Antim Pag’ the final step symbolising the transition from cadet to commissioned officer. As the young officers marched forward, they pledged to uphold the sovereignty, honour and ideals of the nation.
With the commissioning of the 157th Course, the Indian Military Academy once again reaffirmed its legacy as a premier institution dedicated to nurturing officers who will lead the Indian Army with professionalism, courage and unwavering commitment to national service.
