India Advances Integrative Ayurveda Research to Tackle Obesity

India is strengthening its position as a global leader in evidence-based integrative healthcare with a major international conference on obesity and metabolic disorders scheduled in Bengaluru. Organised by the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) through the Central Ayurveda Research Institute (CARI), the two-day event will take place on 1–2 December 2025 at the A.V. Rama Rao Auditorium, Indian Institute of Science (IISc).
The conference aligns with the 57th Foundation Day of CCRAS and brings together leading researchers, clinicians and public health experts to address the escalating global burden of obesity and metabolic syndrome. The initiative is being held in collaboration with IISc and NIMHANS and aims to strengthen scientific dialogue between Ayurveda and modern biomedical systems.

Ayush Minister Highlights India’s Integrative Health Vision

Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ayush and Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare, Shri Prataprao Jadhav, underscored the significance of this scientific gathering. He emphasised that the rising prevalence of metabolic disorders necessitates collaborative strategies that combine traditional wisdom with contemporary medical science.

He stated that India is committed to enhancing evidence-based research in Ayurveda and developing integrative health solutions that can be scaled globally. The Minister added that the conference represents a crucial step toward advancing interdisciplinary research, innovation, and policy frameworks that support preventive and holistic healthcare.

A Science-Driven Response to Metabolic Diseases

The Secretary of the Ministry of Ayush noted that metabolic disorders, including Type-2 Diabetes and obesity, demand rigorous, science-backed interventions. Ayurveda’s preventive, personalised and holistic approach can complement biomedical advances and offer sustainable solutions, especially when validated through modern research methodologies.

Dr. Rabinarayan Acharya, Director General of CCRAS, also highlighted the scientific merit of the programme. He emphasised that bridging Ayurveda with cutting-edge biomedical research is essential for meaningful progress in translational science and global health policy. The conference’s sessions are designed to promote high-quality evidence generation and encourage the integration of Ayurvedic insights into mainstream healthcare frameworks.

The event will feature:

  • Plenary and keynote sessions by national and international researchers
  • Parallel scientific presentations on integrative healthcare
  • A symposium on managing Type-2 Diabetes, Obesity and Dyslipidemia
