“India and Chile Strengthen Ties as PM Modi Hosts President Gabriel Boric Font in Delhi”

RR Team, April 1, 2025April 2, 2025

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended a warm welcome to the President of Chile, H.E. Mr. Gabriel Boric Font, during his visit to Delhi today, marking a new chapter in the growing friendship between India and Chile. Expressing his joy in hosting the Chilean leader, the Prime Minister emphasized Chile’s significance as a valuable partner in Latin America, underscoring the potential for deeper bilateral cooperation.

The two leaders engaged in constructive discussions and agreed to kickstart talks on a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), aiming to enhance economic ties between their nations. They identified several key sectors with immense potential for collaboration, including minerals, energy, space, defence, and agriculture, areas where both countries see opportunities to grow together.

An area that particularly stood out in their talks was healthcare, as both leaders acknowledged the increasing popularity of Yoga and Ayurveda in Chile. This rising interest, they noted, reflects a broader cultural exchange that has been growing between the two nations. The leaders agreed that strengthening cultural and educational links, through initiatives like student exchange programs, would further deepen the relationship between India and Chile.

In a social media post following the meeting, Prime Minister Modi shared his thoughts with his followers, stating, “India welcomes a special friend! It is a delight to host President Gabriel Boric Font in Delhi. Chile is an important friend of ours in Latin America. Our talks today will add significant impetus to the India-Chile bilateral friendship.” He also noted their shared commitment to enhancing economic cooperation, saying, “We are keen to expand economic linkages with Chile. In this regard, President Gabriel Boric Font and I agreed that discussions should begin for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. We also discussed sectors like critical minerals, energy, defence, space and agriculture, where closer ties are achievable.”

The Prime Minister also expressed optimism about the potential for further collaboration in healthcare and cultural exchanges, emphasizing how these areas could bring the two nations even closer together.

This visit highlights the growing relationship between India and Chile, with both countries eager to build a future of stronger economic, cultural, and educational ties.
