In a significant step towards strengthening India’s self-reliance in defence, the Ministry of Defence has signed a contract worth ₹642.17 crore with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for the procurement of 28 EON-51 systems. These advanced Electro Optical Fire Control Systems will be deployed on 11 New Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels and three Cadet Training Ships of the Indian Navy, enhancing their surveillance and operational capabilities. Signed in New Delhi on February 8, 2025, this contract falls under the ‘Buy (Indian-IDDM)’ category, reinforcing the government’s commitment to indigenous defence manufacturing.
The EON-51 system is a sophisticated technology designed for search, detection, and classification of targets using Electro Optical and Thermal Imager devices. By equipping naval vessels with this cutting-edge system, India takes a crucial step towards enhancing maritime security while reducing dependence on foreign defence equipment. The project is also expected to create employment opportunities over the next three years, benefiting a wide range of Indian industries, including Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
