India Calls Global Investors for Clean Energy at WEF

RR Team, January 20, 2026January 20, 2026
At the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2026 in Davos, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Shri Pralhad Joshi, urged global investors to partner with India in rapidly expanding the country’s clean energy sector. Speaking at the session “Resilient Infrastructure for Growth”, he highlighted India’s ability to combine scale with resilience, noting that the nation has achieved 267 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity as of December 2025 and is on track to meet its 2030 renewable targets.
Shri Joshi emphasized that India’s energy transition is supported by strong policies, domestic manufacturing, grid modernization, energy storage solutions, and emerging geothermal and nuclear frameworks. He underscored the need for patient capital, blended finance, and deeper collaboration between governments, private sector investors, and multilateral development banks to achieve an inclusive and sustainable energy transition.

Sustainability as a Core Driver of Growth

Delivering the keynote at the roundtable “Delivering Sustainability at Scale: Pathways for Global Transformation”, Shri Joshi stated that sustainability is now central to economic growth, competitiveness, and resilience. He emphasized that the challenge of this decade is not merely adopting renewables but delivering sustainability at scale, speed, and economic benefit.

He reiterated India’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2070, guided by the principle Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam—One Earth, One Family, One Future. India views sustainability as a strategic societal and economic transformation rather than just a technological shift, with renewables as the most reliable, affordable, and future-ready pathway for growth.

Bilateral Engagements with Global Leaders

Shri Joshi met H.E. Dr. Said Mohammed Ahmed Al Saqri, Economic Advisor, Oman, to explore collaboration on solar, wind, green hydrogen, energy storage, and integrated energy projects, leveraging India–Oman CEPA and initiatives like the International Solar Alliance and One Sun One World One Grid.

He also held discussions with Mr. Maxime Prévot, Deputy Prime Minister of Belgium, and H.E. Subaih Abdul Aziz Al-Mukhaizeem, Minister of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, Kuwait, focusing on strengthening bilateral cooperation and clean energy investments.

Engagement with Global Investors

The Union Minister engaged with Charles Emond and Ms. Sarah Bouchard of La Caisse, as well as Mr. Juvencio Maeztu, CEO of Ingka Group (IKEA), encouraging increased investments in India’s renewable sector. He highlighted India’s stable policy environment, strong regulatory framework, and long-term growth prospects for solar, wind, and hybrid energy solutions.

India Pavilion at WEF 2026

Shri Joshi attended the inauguration of the India Pavilion at WEF 2026 alongside Union Ministers and State Chief Ministers including Shri N. Chandrababu Naidu (Andhra Pradesh) and Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma (Assam). He also launched the Green Investment Handbook ‘The India Story’, showcasing India as a reliable, reform-driven, and investment-ready destination aligned with Viksit Bharat 2047.

The Pavilion highlighted India’s strengths in renewable energy, manufacturing, infrastructure, and innovation, reinforcing its position as a trusted global partner for investment and sustainable growth.
