During the meeting, President Murmu highlighted that India and Cyprus share strong democratic values and parliamentary traditions. She emphasised that the bilateral relationship is founded on mutual respect and a shared strategic vision.

Ms Annita Demetriou’s visit is particularly historic, as she is the first woman and the youngest Speaker of the House of Representatives of Cyprus. President Murmu praised her as an inspiration for women globally and highlighted India’s own progress in women’s political participation. She noted that millions of women are actively participating in local governance under the Panchayat Raj system and cited the landmark legislation ensuring one-third reservation for women in Parliament and state legislatures.
The President expressed hope that the delegation will gain valuable insights into India’s democratic processes and parliamentary functioning during their visit. She affirmed that such exchanges would further strengthen the friendly and cooperative relations between India and Cyprus.
India and Cyprus continue to explore collaborative opportunities across trade, defence, culture, and education, reflecting a growing partnership built on trust and shared values. Both sides reiterated their commitment to enhancing bilateral dialogue and joint initiatives in various sectors.
