India Honours Top Star-Rated Mines in National Ceremony

Recognising India’s Best-Performing Mines

In a move to boost sustainable mining practices, the Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM) will host a grand Felicitation Ceremony for Seven-Star and Five-Star rated mines for the year 2023–24. The event will be held on July 7, 2025, at the Rajasthan International Centre, Jaipur, celebrating mines that have demonstrated excellence in environmental care, community welfare, and responsible resource management.

The awards are part of the government’s long-term commitment to responsible mining under the Sustainable Development Framework.

Ministerial Presence Adds Significance

The event will witness the presence of several top dignitaries. Union Minister of Coal & Mines, Shri G. Kishan Reddy, will serve as the Chief Guest, reaffirming the government’s commitment to sustainable resource extraction.

Joining him will be Rajasthan Chief Minister Shri Bhajan Lal Sharma and Union Minister of State for Coal & Mines, Shri Satish Chandra Dubey, as Guests of Honour. Also gracing the occasion will be Shri Sanjay Lohiya, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Mines.

Their presence reflects the growing political and administrative support for ethical and eco-conscious mining practices across India.

98 Mines to Receive National Recognition

This year, 3 mines have earned the rare distinction of receiving 7-star ratings, while 95 mines have achieved 5-star ratings. These awards are not just symbolic—they validate years of hard work, innovation, and compliance with sustainability norms.

The Star Rating of Mines scheme, introduced in 2014–15, has gained significant traction in recent years. It uses a performance-based evaluation model to assess mines on multiple parameters including:

Fostering a Culture of Responsible Mining

More than just awards, this ceremony promotes a culture of accountability and transparency in the mining sector. The star rating system motivates mine owners to go beyond compliance and aim for best-in-class operations.

By benchmarking performance nationally, the program encourages operators to adopt modern, green technologies and inclusive practices that benefit workers and the local environment alike.

Furthermore, with public recognition from Union Ministers and national media coverage, it builds pride and healthy competition in the mining community.

Driving Inclusive Growth with Sustainability

The Sustainable Development Framework under which this program operates is rooted in balancing economic growth with environmental protection and social inclusion. Through it, the Ministry of Mines aims to make mining an enabler of:

The framework ensures that mining today does not compromise resources and welfare for future generations.

Celebrating India’s Mining Future

This felicitation event is more than a ceremonial gathering—it is a message that India’s mining future lies in sustainable practices. Through innovation, inclusivity, and environmental care, these star-rated mines serve as models for the entire industry.

As India aims to become a global leader in mineral production, it must walk the path of responsible mining. Initiatives like this recognition program offer both direction and motivation.
