Shared Values and Strategic Ties
Addressing the European leaders, President Murmu emphasized that India and Europe are connected not only through contemporary interests but also by enduring shared values such as democracy, pluralism, and an open market economy. She highlighted that these common principles guide the two sides amid a rapidly changing global environment.
Over the past two decades, the India–EU Strategic Partnership has grown considerably stronger, reflecting mutual trust and a collective vision to promote a stable, balanced, and rules-based international order. The President noted that both India and the EU share a responsibility in maintaining global stability, sending a clear message in favor of diplomacy, multilateralism, and peaceful coexistence.
Economic Cooperation and Free Trade
Economic ties remain a cornerstone of India-EU relations. President Murmu welcomed the successful conclusion of the India–EU Free Trade Agreement, stating that it is poised to bring significant positive changes to the lives of people on both sides. Trade and investment, she added, are instruments of shared prosperity and social progress, reinforcing the deepening partnership.
The agreement is expected to enhance business opportunities, streamline trade processes, and strengthen economic collaboration across sectors, including technology, sustainable energy, and green infrastructure.
Technology, Defence, and Sustainable Development
President Murmu also highlighted the impact of technology on society and the economy, stressing that India and the EU can collaborate on “responsible innovation.” The recent Security and Defence Partnership agreements are expected to open new avenues for defence industries in both regions.
Further, India expressed keen interest in strengthening cooperation with the EU in clean energy, climate finance, and sustainable technologies, reflecting a shared commitment to environmentally responsible growth.
Looking Ahead
The three leaders expressed confidence that the agreements concluded during the visit will deepen the India-EU Strategic Partnership. They underscored that, together, India and the EU are emerging as a force for balance, stability, and optimism, shaping a future that is sustainable, inclusive, and humane.
