New Delhi, 22 November 2023: India has officially launched the ‘Digital India 2.0’ initiative, aimed at furthering the country’s technological advancement and enhancing digital infrastructure across all sectors. The initiative was unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a special event held in New Delhi, with the goal of positioning India as a global leader in digital innovation and technology.
Key Features of ‘Digital India 2.0’
1. Expansion of 5G and 6G Networks:
The government plans to accelerate the rollout of 5G networks nationwide by the end of 2024, with the long-term goal of preparing for 6G networks by 2030.
This will boost internet connectivity in rural and remote areas, enabling faster communication and fostering tech-driven industries.
2. Digital Skilling and Workforce Development:
A major component of Digital India 2.0 is to upskill 100 million people in various digital technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), blockchain, and cloud computing, by 2027.
The government will partner with leading tech companies to create digital learning hubs and online certification platforms for young professionals.
3. Boost for Tech Startups:
The initiative will allocate $2 billion in funding and grants for tech startups working in AI, robotics, and sustainable technology.
New policies will be implemented to provide easier access to capital, tax incentives, and regulatory support for emerging technology firms.
4. Digital Governance and E-Government Services:
The government will digitize all public services and offer them on a unified digital platform, ensuring greater transparency, efficiency, and ease of access for citizens.
A new e-Governance platform will be launched for faster processing of government documents and online public services, reducing paperwork and delays.
5. Cybersecurity and Data Privacy Enhancements:
A significant focus will be placed on strengthening India’s cybersecurity infrastructure, with the establishment of new cybersecurity training centers across the country.
The government will also introduce stricter data privacy laws to ensure that user information is protected in the digital ecosystem.
