Project Launch at Kakinada
The first major equipment installation ceremony of AM Green’s Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia Complex will be overseen by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. The project is being developed through brownfield conversion of an existing ammonia-urea complex and represents one of the largest clean energy investments in India.
Scale, Investment, and Employment Impact
The AM Green project is designed to produce 1.5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of green ammonia, making it the largest facility of its kind globally. During construction, up to 8,000 jobs will be generated, alongside long-term high-skill employment opportunities in renewables, logistics, storage, and port services, strengthening Andhra Pradesh’s industrial ecosystem.
Phased Commissioning and Integrated Infrastructure
The complex will be commissioned in phases: 0.5 MTPA by 2027, 1.0 MTPA by 2028, and 1.5 MTPA by 2030. The integrated facility includes 7.5 GW of solar and wind capacity, 1,950 MW of electrolyser capacity, and 2 GW of round-the-clock renewable power. Energy storage will be supported by pumped hydro systems, including India’s first such project at Pinnapuram.
Global Exports and Strategic Importance
AM Green has secured long-term supply agreements with global players including Uniper and is engaging partners in Japan and Singapore. Green ammonia from Kakinada will be exported for clean shipping fuel, power generation, and hydrogen pathways, positioning Andhra Pradesh and India as emerging exporters in the global clean energy value chain.
