The Responsible Nations Index is the result of a three-year research initiative led by WIF, with scholarly contributions from Jawaharlal Nehru University and Indian Institute of Management Mumbai. The index marks a paradigm shift, evaluating nations on responsibility-centric criteria rather than traditional power-focused metrics.
Expert Panel Discussion
As part of the launch, an expert panel discussion titled “From Human Well-being to Global Stewardship: Rethinking Responsibility, Prosperity and Peace in the 21st Century” was held. Chaired by N. K. Singh, Chairman of the 15th Finance Commission of India, the session explored ways to redefine national success in an interconnected global landscape.
Shri Sudhanshu Mittal, Founder and Secretary of WIF, emphasized that the RNI aligns governance outcomes with ethical and humanitarian values, representing a new approach to measuring responsible nationhood.
Key Rankings in the Responsible Nations Index 2026
The RNI scores countries on a scale reflecting responsibility in governance, social welfare, environmental stewardship, and global engagement. Top-ranking countries in 2026 include:

The launch of RNI also included the release of the full report, initiating a global conversation on responsible nationhood and cooperative international progress. By redefining success beyond GDP and military power, the index encourages countries to prioritize social equity, environmental sustainability, and moral leadership in the global arena.
