Enhanced Strategic Partnership and Development Cooperation

The President noted the steady growth in India-Mauritius cooperation across multiple sectors, reflected in the recent elevation of bilateral relations to an ‘Enhanced Strategic Partnership.’ India’s support for Mauritius’ developmental priorities was highlighted, with a new Special Economic Package aimed at bolstering infrastructure and key services.
Projects under this package include hospital expansions, road and port development, defence procurement, and joint maritime surveillance initiatives. President Murmu expressed confidence that these projects would have a tangible, positive impact on the daily lives of Mauritian citizens in the coming years.
Expanding Cooperation in New Sectors
Both leaders agreed that bilateral cooperation is extending into emerging areas such as digital technologies and space research. President Murmu expressed optimism that with PM Ramgoolam’s leadership experience, India-Mauritius relations will continue to strengthen, fostering mutual growth and shared prosperity.
The meeting also reinforced the unique bond between India and Mauritius, grounded in shared history, values, and culture. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining strong diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties for the future.
Looking Ahead
As India continues to engage with Mauritius under its ‘Neighbourhood First’ and ‘MAHASAGAR Vision’ policies, both nations are expected to see deeper strategic, economic, and technological collaboration. This visit sets the stage for expanded partnerships in infrastructure, defence, digital technology, and space research.
