India Named Country of the Year at BIOFACH 2026 Germany

India has been designated as the Country of the Year at BIOFACH 2026, the world’s leading trade fair for organic food and agriculture, scheduled to be held from February 10 to 13, 2026, at Nuremberg, Germany. The recognition places India at the global centre of discussions on organic farming, sustainability and responsible food systems.
The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, is spearheading India’s participation at the prestigious event with a large-scale and high-impact presence.

APEDA Leads India’s Organic Push on the Global Stage

BIOFACH Germany is globally recognised as the most influential exhibition exclusively dedicated to organic food and agriculture. APEDA has been participating in BIOFACH for over a decade and has consistently positioned India as a reliable supplier of certified organic products.

India’s participation in BIOFACH 2026 marks a significant scale-up compared to previous editions. The expanded presence reflects rising global demand for Indian organic products and the growing confidence of exporters, Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) and state agencies in international markets.

India Country Pavilion Highlights Agricultural Diversity

The India Country Pavilion, spread across 1,074 square metres, will feature 67 co-exhibitors. These include organic exporters, FPOs, cooperatives, organic testing laboratories, state government bodies and commodity boards.

The pavilion will showcase a diverse range of organic products such as rice, oilseeds, pulses, herbs, spices, cashew, ginger, turmeric, large cardamom, cinnamon, mango puree and essential oils. The display underscores India’s capability to offer both raw and value-added organic products that meet global quality standards.

Participation from Over 20 States and UTs

Exhibitors from more than 20 States and Union Territories are participating in BIOFACH 2026, highlighting India’s vast agro-climatic diversity. These include Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand and Delhi.

The wide participation reflects region-specific organic strengths and demonstrates India’s year-on-year expansion in global organic trade engagement.

GI-Tagged Rice and Curated Food Tastings

Visitors to the India Pavilion will experience curated tastings of Indian organic food products. Live sampling of aromatic biryani prepared using premium organic basmati rice and spices is among the highlights.

Five GI-tagged rice varieties — Indrayani, Navara, Gobindbhog, Red Rice and Chak Hao (Black Rice) — will be served to showcase India’s heritage rice diversity and traditional farming practices.

High-Impact Branding Across BIOFACH Venue

As Country of the Year, India will also undertake extensive branding and promotional activities at prominent locations across the Nuremberg Messe Exhibition Centre. These initiatives aim to enhance visibility, attract global buyers and reinforce India’s image as a trusted organic sourcing destination.

According to APEDA, the recognition comes at a time when global consumers are increasingly prioritising sustainability, traceability and environmentally responsible lifestyles.

India Strengthens Its Position as Organic Food Basket

India’s designation as Country of the Year at BIOFACH 2026 reinforces its position as a global leader in organic agriculture. With strong certification systems, farmer participation and government support, India continues to expand its footprint in international organic markets.

APEDA remains committed to supporting Indian exporters through capacity building, market access initiatives and quality assurance measures, strengthening India’s role as the organic food basket of the world.
