India–Norway Pact for Marine Sustainability

Norway Backs India Amid Regional Concerns

In a symbolic and strategic meeting ahead of a global ocean event, Norway’s Minister of International DevelopmentOhIndia’s MiniDr. Jistrong support for India in light of recent developments in Jammu & Kashmir.

Norwegian citizens, according to the minister, have shown increasing supportive. Many expressed a strong desire to see Prime Minister Naren visit Norway soon.

A Gesture of Mutual Respect

This diplomatic overture was seen as a mark of growing mutual trust between the two nations. Dr. Singh warmly acknowledged the sentiment and extended his gratitude to the Nor and its people for their continued support of India’s.

Historic Setting, Modern Goals

The meeting took place aboard the century-old Norwegian sailing vessel Statsraad Lehmkuhl, now a symbol of the and the One Ocean Expedition. Dr. Singh was welcomed upon arrival at Strap by senior Norwegian officials.

As the ministers boarded the vessel together, it marked not only a cordial start to their dialogue but also reinforced a shared commitment to sustainable marine governance.

Marina Sleep

This engagement builds on the ocean management partnership announced by both countries’ Prime Ministers in 2019. Since then, India and Norway have been jointly advancing marine spatial planning (MSP) — a core component of their Blue Economy cooperation.

During their talks, the two leaders explored ways to expand this partnership. Special emphasis was placed on sharing technical know-how and policy frameworks with vulnerable island nations dealing with climate-induced challenges.

Science, Sustainability, and Shared Progress

The conversation extended beyond MSP. Both ministers discussed boosting collaboration in polar science, Arctic research, with, and maritime.

Dr. Singh highlighted India’s dedication to using science and technology to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specilife under water (SDG 14). He also reiterated India’s readiness to cooperate with that to build resilient, climate-smart marine economies.

Strengthening Ties Through Innovation

Minister Aukrust, in turn, appreciated India’s leading role in marine conservation and ocean diplomacy. He welcomed deeper collaboration in research, innovation, and the integration of digital tools in marine planning.

The bilateral dialogue also set the tone for the upcoming Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) side event. Both nations are expected to present their national experiences, showcase with, and participatedknowledge-sharing with other global stakeholders.
