India Post Delivers Thanjavur Shri Ram Art to Ayodhya

RR Team, December 24, 2025December 24, 2025

In a remarkable blend of devotion, heritage preservation and precision logistics, the Department of Posts has successfully transported a priceless Thanjavur-style painting of Lord Shri Ram from Bengaluru to Ayodhya using its Logistics Post service. The historic consignment was safely delivered and installed at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra, marking a milestone for India Post’s specialised logistics capabilities.

The operation, completed under continuous supervision and coordination across multiple states, highlights India Post’s growing role in handling high-value and culturally significant consignments with care and reliability.

A Priceless Cultural and Spiritual Artefact

The sacred painting, executed in the traditional Thanjavur art style, is a masterpiece created on a gold-coated base and embellished with precious and semi-precious stones. Known for its rich colours, intricate detailing and spiritual symbolism, Thanjavur art holds a revered place in India’s artistic heritage.

The artwork was generously donated by Bengaluru-based devotee Smt. Jayashree Phaneesh to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra. Given its exceptional artistic, cultural and spiritual value, the transportation of the painting required meticulous planning and specialised handling.

Engineering Precision in Logistics

The large-format painting, measuring approximately 12 feet by 8 feet and weighing nearly 800 kilograms, posed unique logistical challenges. To ensure maximum protection, the artwork was professionally packed in a specially designed wooden crate with multi-layered bubble wrapping.

India Post officials ensured that the consignment was handled under strict protocols. Loading and unloading operations were carried out using cranes and specialised restraints to prevent even the slightest damage.

A 1,900-Kilometre Journey Under Vigilant Supervision

The vehicle carrying the priceless painting departed from Bengaluru on 17 December 2025. Over the next several days, it traversed nearly 1,900 kilometres across multiple states before safely reaching Ayodhya on 22 December 2025.

The journey passed through Karnataka, Telangana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, covering the route Bengaluru–Hyderabad–Nagpur–Jabalpur–Rewa–Prayagraj–Ayodhya. Throughout the journey, departmental officials escorted the vehicle, ensuring continuous monitoring and security.

Senior postal officers and Divisional Heads from the respective postal circles closely tracked the consignment’s movement, making this a coordinated, pan-India logistical effort.

Overcoming Challenges, Ensuring Safety

Despite facing dense fog conditions during the final leg of the journey in Uttar Pradesh, the consignment was handled with utmost caution. Officials ensured reduced speeds, enhanced visibility measures and careful navigation to guarantee the painting’s safe arrival.

Upon reaching Ayodhya, the artwork was formally handed over and installed at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra in the presence of Shri Champat Rai, General Secretary of the Trust.

India Post’s Expanding Role in Heritage Preservation

This mission marks a first-of-its-kind high-value Logistics Post consignment for the Department of Posts. It underscores India Post’s evolving capabilities beyond traditional mail services, positioning it as a trusted partner for specialised, high-stakes logistics.

Officials said the successful execution reaffirms India Post’s commitment to reliability, security and service excellence, especially when supporting national heritage, faith-based institutions and cultural preservation initiatives.
