India Strengthens Global Electronics Role with New Manufacturing Scheme and Inauguration of High-Tech Facilities

RR Team, April 18, 2025April 19, 2025

In a major boost to India’s growing status as a global electronics manufacturing hub, Union Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw today underscored the country’s remarkable progress in this sector and its potential to play an even deeper role in international value chains. Speaking at VVDN Technologies’ facility in Manesar, Haryana, the Minister reflected on a decade of consistent advancement under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marked by substantial increases in both production and exports.

Shri Vaishnaw announced that the Cabinet has recently approved a New Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme, designed to complement the National Semiconductor Mission by supporting the production of passive components. This move is expected to complete the domestic manufacturing ecosystem, significantly reduce import dependency, and open new doors for employment and innovation. He expressed optimism that this scheme would not only strengthen India’s manufacturing capabilities but also elevate its role as a trusted global partner.

Highlighting the exponential growth of the electronics sector, the Minister noted that electronics production in India has quintupled to ₹11 lakh crore, while exports have surged six-fold, now exceeding ₹3.25 lakh crore. Behind these numbers lies a story of tireless effort and a collective push towards self-reliance and excellence. Today, the sector supports over 25 lakh jobs, and with ongoing government and industry collaboration, even greater milestones are within reach.

The occasion was marked by the inauguration of VVDN’s largest Surface Mount Technology (SMT) Line and a state-of-the-art Mechanical Innovation Park. These facilities are not just technological landmarks but also symbols of opportunity, expected to create over 3,000 skilled jobs and foster advanced manufacturing of AI servers, networking devices, and motherboards. Shri Vaishnaw commended the company’s design-led approach and praised its team of over 5,000 engineers for developing complex, AI-enabled systems—a capability that puts India at the forefront of global hardware innovation.

He also visited VVDN’s high-end R&D labs, where he interacted with engineers and workers, encouraging them to continue building on India’s momentum. Importantly, he stressed the significance of indigenously developed design tools, calling it a crucial leap toward technological autonomy.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to intellectual property protection and a robust skilling ecosystem, Shri Vaishnaw outlined a comprehensive three-tier training framework aimed at equipping India’s youth with the expertise needed for high-capital, high-tech roles. He emphasized that India’s progress rests not only on policy but also on people—the engineers, designers, and workers whose dedication drives the sector forward.

The event in Manesar was more than a ceremonial inauguration; it was a reflection of a larger vision taking shape. Under the steady guidance of policy and the innovation of homegrown enterprises like VVDN, India is forging a path that blends ambition with inclusivity. In this journey, every new facility, every new job, and every new idea is a step toward a future where India stands tall as a leader in the global electronics landscape.
