India Successfully Tests Indigenous ‘Bhargavastra’ Counter-Drone System

Date: May 14, 2025 India has achieved a significant milestone in defense technology by successfully testing the ‘Bhargavastra’ counter-drone system, developed indigenously to enhance aerial security. The advanced system is designed to neutralize hostile unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and drones, ensuring improved national defense preparedness.

In addition, the Union Cabinet announced the approval of a new semiconductor manufacturing unit near Jewar Airport, Uttar Pradesh, with an investment of ₹3,706 crore. The unit will become India’s sixth semiconductor plant, reinforcing the government’s push for electronics self-reliance.

 

Meanwhile, tensions with China escalated diplomatically as the Ministry of External Affairs rejected Beijing’s renewed claims on regions in Arunachal Pradesh, affirming India’s territorial sovereignty.

 

In a significant cross-border development, a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan and a Pakistani ranger were exchanged at the Attari-Wagah border, continuing diplomatic and humanitarian gestures.

 

Adding to regional updates, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) released a second tranche of $1.02 billion to Pakistan under its extended fund facility, aimed at supporting economic stability.
