Indian Army Departs for India-UAE Exercise Desert Cyclone 2025

An Indian Army contingent has departed for the United Arab Emirates to participate in the second edition of the India-UAE Joint Military Exercise DESERT CYCLONE-II. Scheduled from 18 to 30 December 2025 in Abu Dhabi, the exercise aims to enhance interoperability and strengthen defence cooperation between India and the UAE.

The Indian contingent comprises 45 personnel primarily from a battalion of The Mechanised Infantry Regiment. They will train alongside a similarly sized UAE Land Forces unit from the 53 Mechanised Infantry Battalion.

Focus on Urban Operations and Tactical Integration

Exercise Desert Cyclone-II emphasizes joint operations in urban environments, with a focus on sub-conventional operations under United Nations mandates. Troops from both nations will collaborate on peacekeeping, counter-terrorism, and stability operations, honing their ability to operate together in complex scenarios.

Over nearly two weeks, the forces will conduct extensive tactical drills including fighting in built-up areas, heliborne operations, and detailed mission planning. Advanced integration of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) and counter-UAS techniques will also be practiced to enhance operational efficiency in urban settings.

Strengthening Bilateral Defence Ties

The exercise builds upon recent high-level visits, including the Commander of UAE Land Forces in October 2025 and the Commander of UAE Presidential Guard in December 2025. Desert Cyclone-II is expected to further consolidate the strategic partnership between India and the UAE, promoting professional bonds, tactical understanding, and interoperability between the armies.

The joint exercise reflects both nations’ commitment to regional peace, security, and stability, while reinforcing military diplomacy and collaborative defence preparedness.
