The 2025 Cannes Film Festival opened to a dazzling celebration of global cinema, with Indian filmmakers and actors drawing significant attention on the international stage. Among the standout moments was the debut appearance of Alia Bhatt, known for her critically acclaimed performances in Gangubai Kathiawadi and Raazi. Her presence added to the glamour and cultural pride at Cannes.

Joining her was Nitanshi Goel, who became the youngest Indian actor to walk the red carpet at Cannes. Celebrated for her lead role in Laapataa Ladies—India’s official submission to the Oscars 2025—Goel spoke passionately about the importance of Indian stories reaching global audiences.

Cannes veteran Aishwarya Rai Bachchan also made her return, adding timeless elegance and continuity to India’s representation at the festival.

Additionally, Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khattar attended the premiere of Neeraj Ghaywan’s film Homebound, which was featured in the Un Certain Regard category. The film was widely appreciated for its powerful narrative and socially rooted themes.

India’s vibrant participation this year affirms its growing influence in the global film industry and its ability to blend traditional storytelling with modern cinematic artistry.
