The Indian Coast Guard’s (ICG) Offshore Patrol Vessel ICGS Vaibhav and Fast Patrol Vessel ICGS Abhiraj arrived at Male, Maldives, on December 16, 2024, as part of their overseas deployment in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). During their four-day visit, the vessels’ crews will engage in professional interactions with the Maldives National Defence Force Coast Guard (MNDF CG), emphasizing India’s commitment to strengthening regional maritime cooperation.
Focus Areas of Collaboration
The engagements will cover critical maritime operations, including:
- Marine Pollution Response
- Maritime Search and Rescue
- Maritime Law Enforcement
Activities will include cross-deck training, joint discussions, and friendly sports events, fostering camaraderie and professional bonds between the two nations.
Environmental Awareness Initiatives
In line with India’s “Puneet Sagar Abhiyan” campaign, aimed at protecting marine ecosystems, National Cadet Corps (NCC) personnel onboard ICGS Vaibhav will collaborate with local youth organizations to conduct an Environment Protection Awareness Programme. This effort underscores the shared commitment to environmental sustainability.
Strengthening Maritime Partnerships
Following their stop in the Maldives, ICGS Vaibhav and ICGS Abhiraj will visit Colombo and Galle in Sri Lanka to continue professional exchanges and collaborative efforts with regional maritime agencies.
