Indian Railways Deploys 1,205 Special Trains for Festive Rushed

RR Team, October 24, 2025October 24, 2025
Union Minister for Railways, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, reviewed festive season passenger movement at the Railway Board War Room in New Delhi, highlighting real-time nationwide coordination. War rooms at division, zone, and board levels, along with mini control rooms at major stations, monitor passenger flow, train requirements, and operational needs.
Shri Vaishnaw noted that holding and waiting areas ensure organized passenger entry, while over 10,700 reserved and 3,000 unreserved trains are deployed to manage the festival rush. Past years’ data guides the deployment of special trains, with peaks observed between October 17–20 and a second surge expected from October 22–24.

At New Delhi station, a permanent holding area now accommodates over 7,000 passengers, featuring 300 toilets, automatic ticket vending machines, ticket counters, and free RO water. Shri Ravneet Singh Bittu, MoS Railways, inspected festive arrangements at Ambala Cantt Railway Station.

Special Trains for Chhath Festival Rush

Indian Railways has scheduled 1,205 special trains over four days to manage Chhath festival travel, with a total of 2,220 special trains operating for Bihar between October and November 2025. Peak travel data from Delhi area stations indicates a 5–7% increase in unreserved passengers compared to last year.

Enhanced facilities and meticulous planning ensure safe, comfortable journeys. Special arrangements include cleanliness drives at Hajipur station, upgraded services on festive trains, and improved passenger amenities at Yatri Suvidha Kendras.

Compassionate Assistance During Festival Travel

Railway staff provided immediate aid to a passenger in labour at New Delhi station, ensuring safe transfer to a hospital. Throughout the festive rush, staff focused on assisting elderly, differently-abled, and vulnerable passengers, reflecting Indian Railways’ commitment to safety and care.

Passengers traveling to Bihar, including via the Vikramshila Express, praised the cleanliness, seamless arrangements, and upgraded facilities. The combination of real-time coordination, special trains, and on-ground support underscores Indian Railways’ dedication to making festive travel smooth and reliable nationwide.
