One of the largest operations was conducted for Maha Kumbh 2025, with 17,340 special train trips between 13 January and 28 February, facilitating the travel of millions of pilgrims. For Holi 2025, held from 1 March to 22 March, 1,144 special trains were deployed — nearly double the number from the previous year — ensuring smoother festival travel and better seat availability.
Summer Specials and Chhath Puja 2025
The summer vacation period, spanning 1 April to 30 June 2025, witnessed 12,417 Summer Special trains operating to meet increased passenger demand. Similarly, Chhath Puja arrangements from 1 October to 30 November 2025 included 12,383 special train trips, marking a substantial increase over 2024 and ensuring pilgrims could travel comfortably and safely.
Comparison with 2024 Operations
These 2025 arrangements were built upon the strong operational base established in 2024. Aastha Special services (30 January–11 March 2024) involved 326 circular trips for pilgrims, while Holi 2024 saw 604 special trains. Summer season operations in 2024 comprised 12,919 Summer Specials, and Chhath Puja 2024 included 7,990 trips. The scale-up in 2025 demonstrates Indian Railways’ continuous improvements in planning and crowd management.
