India’s First Cooperative University to Rise in Anand

RR Team, July 5, 2025July 4, 2025

Tribhuvan Sahkari University: A New Era for India’s Cooperatives

Anand, Gujarat – July 5, 2025: In a landmark step for the Indian cooperative sector, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah will perform the ‘Bhoomi Pujan’ and lay the foundation stone of “Tribhuvan” Sahkari University (TSU) in Anand.

This university will be the first national-level institution dedicated to capacity building in the cooperative sector. It’s part of a visionary initiative under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and Amit Shah’s guidance.

A Vision Rooted in Cooperation, Innovation, and Employment

Tribhuvan Sahkari University will serve as a major step in realising the Triveni of cooperation, innovation, and employment. It aims to bridge the growing demand for trained professionals in cooperative management, rural finance, law, and development.

During the ceremony, Shri Amit Shah will also unveil an NCERT-designed academic module. This module will help school students understand the principles and impact of the cooperative movement in India.

Laying the Educational Foundation for Sahkar se Samriddhi

This new university supports the Sahkar se Samriddhi (Prosperity through Cooperation) mission. It will offer education, training, and research in areas that directly serve the grassroots cooperative ecosystem.

Some of its academic offerings will include:

  • PhD programs

  • Managerial-level degrees

  • Supervisory-level diplomas

  • Operational-level certificates

The academic structure will align with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The university will set up subject-specific schools, including in other states, and build a national cooperative education network.

Building Skills for 1 Crore+ Cooperative Workers

India has over 40 lakh cooperative employees and 80 lakh board members. TSU will aim to train 20 lakh personnel from Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), dairy, fisheries, and other cooperatives over the next five years.

To meet this goal, TSU will:

  • Build a strong faculty base through cooperative PhD programs

  • Address the lack of qualified cooperative educators

  • Offer standardised training in partnership with over 200 cooperative institutions in India

Driving Rural Innovation Through R&D

Currently, India lacks a structured research and innovation hub for cooperatives. To fix this, the university will set up a dedicated R&D council. This council will:

  • Promote innovation and low-cost technologies in cooperatives

  • Support affiliated institutions

  • Collaborate with national and global research leaders to bring best practices to India

This initiative aims to uplift rural economies by encouraging practical, sustainable, and locally relevant solutions.

Environmental Harmony and Cultural Roots

As part of the foundation event, Shri Amit Shah will also participate in “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”, a tree plantation campaign inspired by PM Modi. This effort promotes environmental responsibility and honors cultural values tied to motherhood and nature.

Conclusion: A Bold Step for a Stronger India

The launch of Tribhuvan Sahkari University is more than just the start of a new institution. It’s a national commitment to empower grassroots cooperatives, create jobs, and fuel rural transformation.

By combining education, innovation, and tradition, India is charting a bold new course for inclusive development—one that puts people and cooperation at the center of growth.
