Janaushadhi Scheme Expands Affordable Healthcare Access
Under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP), a total of 17,610 Jan Aushadhi Kendras are now operational across the country, including 2,202 new stores opened in 2025. The scheme offers 2,110 medicines and 315 medical devices covering 29 therapeutic categories.
Sales under PMBJP reached ₹1,409.32 crore till November 2025 in the current financial year, generating savings of approximately ₹5,637 crore for citizens. Jan Aushadhi Suvidha sanitary napkins, priced at ₹1 per pad, recorded cumulative sales of over 96 crore units.
PLI Schemes Boost Domestic Manufacturing
The Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Pharmaceuticals recorded investments worth ₹40,294 crore by September 2025, far exceeding its original target. Over 726 APIs, KSMs, and drug intermediates are now being manufactured domestically, including 191 produced in India for the first time.
The scheme has generated pharmaceutical sales exceeding ₹3.08 lakh crore, including exports worth nearly ₹1.99 lakh crore, and created employment for approximately 97,000 people across more than 350 manufacturing units.
India MedTech Expo 2025 Highlights Innovation
India MedTech Expo 2025, held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, showcased India’s end-to-end MedTech ecosystem under the theme “Global MedTech Manufacturing Hub: Precision Engineering yet Affordable.” The event attracted over 12,000 visitors and hosted nearly 3,000 buyer-seller meetings.
Featuring start-ups, MSMEs, R&D institutions, and global companies, the expo reinforced India’s ambition to become a global hub for medical device manufacturing and innovation by 2047.
NIPERs Drive Research and Talent Excellence
All seven National Institutes of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPERs) ranked among the top 30 pharmacy institutions in the country under NIRF 2025. Forty faculty members were listed among the world’s top 2% scientists by Stanford University.
NIPERs have collectively filed 476 patents, published over 8,700 research papers, and achieved high placement rates, reflecting strong industry-academia collaboration.
Focus on Innovation and Global Partnerships
Under the Promotion of Research and Innovation in Pharma MedTech Sector (PRIP) Scheme, seven Centres of Excellence approved 111 research projects by November 2025. The scheme aims to shift India’s pharma sector from generic manufacturing to innovation-led growth.
India also strengthened international cooperation through an MoU with the Netherlands for collaboration in pharmaceuticals and medical devices, reinforcing its growing global footprint.
