In a recent announcement, India outlined its strategy to deploy Bharat Small Reactors (BSRs) and develop Bharat Small Modular Reactors (BSMRs). These reactors are intended primarily for sectors with specific captive power needs. Research and development efforts have already been initiated for the BSMRs, which are still in the exploration phase.

Alongside these efforts, R&D for the development of new nuclear energy technologies, including the Bharat Small Modular Reactors, is actively progressing.
This information was shared by Dr. Jitendra Singh, the Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, in a written response in the Rajya Sabha today.
