IndiaSkills NE Meet 2025–26 Opens at Gauhati Univ

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship is set to host the North East Regional Competition of IndiaSkills 2025–26 at Gauhati University, Assam, from January 19 to 22, marking a historic milestone in India’s national skilling journey. For the first time, a dedicated IndiaSkills regional competition is being organised exclusively for the North Eastern Region, bringing together skilled youth from all eight states on a common national platform.

First-Ever Exclusive Regional Platform for North East

The competition represents a decisive step towards strengthening skill ecosystems in emerging regions and reducing geographic barriers that often limit participation. Participants from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura will compete across 26 skill categories aligned with national priorities and industry demand.

The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) is serving as the knowledge partner and implementing agency for IndiaSkills Competition 2025–26, ensuring high-quality competition standards and adherence to global benchmarks.

Inauguration and Government Commitment

The regional competition will be inaugurated on January 19 by Shri Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Minister of State for Education. His presence underscores the Union Government’s commitment to skill development, competitive excellence and inclusive growth across regions.

Addressing the media ahead of the event, Joint Secretary Smt. Hena Usman described the North East Regional Competition as a critical milestone in deepening India’s skilling architecture and providing region-specific platforms for emerging talent.

Strong Participation in IndiaSkills 2025–26 Cycle

IndiaSkills is India’s premier national skill competition framework, designed to identify, nurture and benchmark vocational talent against international standards. The ongoing IndiaSkills 2025–26 cycle has witnessed one of the largest participation footprints to date.

As many as 3.65 lakh candidates have registered from 35 States and Union Territories across 63 skill categories through the Skill India Digital Hub, reflecting growing awareness and aspiration among India’s skilled youth.

Opening Ceremony and Competition Structure

The event will commence with an opening ceremony at the B.K.B Auditorium, Gauhati University, followed by a familiarisation programme for participants on January 19. Over the next three days, candidates will compete under the supervision of industry experts and certified assessors.

This integrated approach ensures strong industry alignment, fair evaluation and exposure to real-world skill standards, preparing candidates for future employment and entrepreneurship opportunities.

Pathway to National and Global Platforms

Winners from the North East Regional Competition will advance to the national stage of IndiaSkills Competition 2025–26. From there, top performers may earn opportunities to represent India at global forums such as the WorldSkills Competition.

The initiative not only celebrates regional talent but also builds a strong pipeline of globally competitive skilled professionals, reinforcing India’s position as a talent hub.

Boost to Regional Inclusion and Youth Empowerment

The exclusive North East regional competition reflects the government’s broader vision of inclusive development, ensuring that talent from every corner of the country receives equal opportunity and recognition.

By hosting the event at Gauhati University, the initiative also strengthens academic-industry collaboration and inspires young students across the region to pursue skill-based careers.
