Indo-Russian Global Dance Overture at Kamani Theatre

New Delhi witnessed a spectacular celebration of culture and collaboration as the internationally acclaimed Kostroma Russian National Ballet performed Global Dance Overture at Kamani Theatre today. The event, highlighting the enduring India–Russia partnership, was inaugurated by Shri Vivek Agarwal, Secretary of the Ministry of Culture.

Distinguished Guests Grace the Event

The occasion was attended by prominent dignitaries including H.E. Mr. Denis Evgenievich Alipov, Ambassador of Russia to India; Dr. Sandhya Purecha, Chairperson of Sangeet Natak Akademi; and Mrs. Elena Tsarenko, Director of the Russian National Ballet “Kostroma.” The event was supported by the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Embassy of the Russian Federation in India, and Sangeet Natak Akademi, under India’s Ministry of Culture.

Kostroma Russian National Ballet Performance

The Kostroma Russian National Ballet presented Russia’s largest historical dance show, captivating audiences from over 50 countries across five continents. Created by Yuri Tsarenko, Chief Choreographer and Honoured Artist of Russia, the show brings alive the nation’s folk traditions, historical narratives, and multicultural heritage through vibrant costumes, authentic choreography, and immersive performances representing regions like the Caucasus, Buryatia, Siberia, the Far North, and Central Russia.

Indian Tribute: Jayati Jaya Mama Bharatam

Adding a special touch, Indian dancers performed “Jayati Jaya Mama Bharatam”, a choreographed tribute to India’s cultural diversity. The performance integrated selected folk traditions from across the country, symbolizing unity in artistic expression and a shared cultural heritage.

Workshops and Cultural Exchange

On 2nd March 2026, an educational workshop under the Global Dance Overture initiative was held at Meghdoot Theatre-I, Rabindra Bhawan in collaboration with Sangeet Natak Akademi. The session included restricted-participation dance demonstrations, cross-cultural workshops in Russian and Indian traditions, and a collaborative “Round Dance of Friendship” flash mob, fostering artistic exchange among young dancers and choreographers.

Strengthening India–Russia Cultural Ties

The Global Dance Overture event in New Delhi marks a significant milestone in India–Russia cultural cooperation. By showcasing dance as a universal language, the initiative enhances people-to-people ties, strengthens mutual understanding, and celebrates the rich artistic heritage of both nations.
