INSV Tarini Reaches Port Stanley, Overcoming Extreme Challenges in Historic Voyage

RR Team, February 18, 2025February 18, 2025

INSV Tarini’s arrival at Port Stanley on February 18, 2025, marks a remarkable achievement in the Navika Sagar Parikrama II, an expedition that embodies courage, resilience, and the indomitable spirit of the Indian Navy’s women officers. Reaching the third port of call at 5:15 AM IST, the vessel completed what is considered the most challenging phase of its journey, navigating through some of the most treacherous waters on the planet. Battling three cyclones, crossing the infamous Drake Passage, and passing through Point Nemo—the most remote location in the ocean—before rounding the formidable Cape Horn, the officers aboard have demonstrated extraordinary skill and determination.

This expedition is more than just a test of endurance; it stands as a testament to India’s commitment to gender empowerment and maritime excellence. Crewed by two women officers, Navika Sagar Parikrama II aims to promote ocean sailing, self-reliance, and India’s rich maritime heritage. Their journey serves as an inspiration to young women across the country, encouraging greater participation in maritime and defense sectors that have long been dominated by men. The officers’ resilience in facing extreme conditions at sea is not only a personal triumph but also a milestone in India’s evolving approach toward inclusivity in the armed forces.

INSV Tarini set sail from Goa, navigating across vast stretches of the Indian, Atlantic, and Pacific Oceans. The successful completion of this phase reaffirms India’s growing maritime reach and its commitment to fostering goodwill through naval diplomacy. At Port Stanley, the officers will engage with the local community, sharing insights into their journey and the Indian Navy’s proud traditions.

With this crucial milestone behind them, the crew now looks ahead to the next leg of their journey. From Port Stanley, INSV Tarini will sail to Cape Town before making its way back to India. The expedition embodies the spirit of adventure, endurance, and collaboration, reinforcing India’s dedication to strengthening global maritime ties. As the vessel continues its voyage, it carries with it a message of determination and progress, proving that no challenge is too great for those who dare to push boundaries.
