In a proud and poignant ceremony held at the National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes & Narcotics (NACIN) in Palasamudram, the 75th batch of Indian Revenue Service (Customs & Indirect Taxes) officer trainees marked the completion of their 18-month training with a formal Passing Out Parade. The event was graced by Union Minister of State for Finance, Shri Pankaj Chaudhary, who presided as Chief Guest and addressed the young officers with words of encouragement, responsibility, and hope.

The batch comprises 42 officer trainees—25 men and 17 women—including five officers from the Royal Government of Bhutan, symbolizing a spirit of regional cooperation and international learning. Their training journey, which began with high expectations, ended on a solemn note as all present observed a moment of silence in memory of the victims of the tragic Pahalgam incident, underscoring the deep sense of service and sacrifice that underpins their new roles.
Shri Chaudhary, in his address, applauded the efforts and dedication of the batch, emphasizing their crucial role in building a transparent, accountable, and citizen-centric tax system. He expressed firm confidence that these young officers will uphold the spirit of Viksit Bharat, contributing to India’s economic development while promoting social equity. His words reflected a blend of optimism and a clear call to action, urging the officers to serve with courage, compassion, and commitment.
Chairman of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), Shri Sanjay Kumar Agarwal, also addressed the gathering, highlighting the importance of striking a fine balance between enforcement and facilitation. He reminded the officers of their pivotal role in mobilizing revenue and facilitating trade, tasks that require them to remain agile, honest, and digitally literate in an ever-evolving landscape. His message encouraged the officers to lead not just with authority but with empathy and discipline.
Member CBIC, Ms. Aruna Narayan Gupta, lent a heartfelt tone to the event as she urged the officers to embody Sevabhav—a spirit of selfless service. She spoke passionately about ethical governance, continuous learning, and the need for public servants to remain accessible and fair. Her words resonated with a reminder that true service lies in humility and genuine concern for citizens.
Dr. M. Subramanyam, Director General of NACIN, shared his pride in the officers’ journey, especially noting that they were the first batch to complete their foundational training entirely at the newly developed NACIN Palasamudram campus—a historic milestone for the institution. He underscored the values of adaptability, integrity, and public service, which will shape them as tax officers in a rapidly transforming world.
The event also celebrated the achievements of outstanding performers with the awarding of five prestigious gold medals. Shri Sreekumar Ravindrakumar, Shri Abhishek Maji, Ms. Pooja Barwal, Shri Shantanu Sunil Malani, and Mrs. Sathya Parvathy R were each honoured for their excellence in academics, leadership, discipline, and overall conduct. These recognitions served not only as personal milestones but also as inspirations for their peers and future batches.
The Passing Out Parade featured an impressive display of drills, showcasing the professionalism, unity, and dedication instilled in the trainees. It stood as a tribute to the academy’s commitment to building a cadre of officers who are not just administrators, but guardians of India’s economic sovereignty and champions of fair governance.
As the officers took a solemn oath to uphold the values of integrity and service, the atmosphere was one of quiet pride and collective hope. With eyes set on the future, they now step into their roles as facilitators of progress and protectors of public trust—ready to serve a nation that believes in their potential.
