Jaishankar Slams West’s Terror Double Standards

RR Team, July 3, 2025July 3, 2025

India’s Firm Stand Against Terrorism

At the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (QFIM) in Washington, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar took a strong stance against terrorism. He criticized Western nations for their selective concerns, urging them to adopt a consistent approach. Notably, he emphasized that India-US relations stand independently and are not influenced by Pakistan.

Jaishankar also called for a global consensus to combat terrorism. According to him, the West must stop applying double standards when addressing cross-border and state-sponsored violence.

Quad Joint Statement Condemns Terror

In a united move, the Quad — comprising India, the US, Australia, and Japan — issued a joint statement. It condemned all forms of terrorism and violent extremism, particularly cross-border threats. This declaration was signed by Jaishankar, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Australia’s Foreign Minister Penny Wong, and Japan’s Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya.

Furthermore, the Quad reaffirmed its commitment to territorial integrity, sovereignty, and international law. This strengthens the group’s shared vision of peace and security in the Indo-Pacific region.

‘India-US Ties Not Shaped by Pakistan’

Jaishankar firmly rejected the idea that India-US ties revolve around Pakistan. “India is not defined by its neighbours,” he said. He urged Western nations to discard outdated perspectives and engage with India based on its global role.

Importantly, he stressed that terrorism must be condemned universally — whether it occurs in South Asia, the Middle East, or the West. This consistent message pushes for an end to selective outrage.

Global Push for Uniform Terror Standards

India has long advocated for a universal definition of terrorism. However, geopolitical interests have often stalled progress. During the Quad meeting, Jaishankar once again pushed for clear, uniform standards to classify terror groups.

“You cannot categorize terrorists based on where they strike or who they target,” he said. His remarks called out the hypocrisy often seen in international diplomacy.

Next Steps for the Quad Alliance

The Quad nations outlined key action points. They agreed to boost intelligence sharing, joint military drills, and maritime cooperation in the Indo-Pacific. Additionally, they plan to advance discussions on cybersecurity, critical technologies, and counterterrorism.

This collaborative approach enhances India’s role in shaping both regional and global narratives. More than ever, India is stepping into assertive multilateral engagement, moving beyond traditional diplomacy.
