“Jan Aushadhi – Virasat Ke Saath: Celebrating Affordable Healthcare and Heritage Across India”

RR Team, March 2, 2025March 3, 2025

The second day of the 7th Jan Aushadhi Diwas 2025, celebrated under the theme “Jan Aushadhi – Virasat Ke Saath,” began with an early morning heritage walk at 25 different monuments across the country. These walks symbolized the deep connection between India’s rich cultural heritage and the well-being of its people, reinforcing the importance of accessible and affordable healthcare through the Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP).

Heritage represents the traditions and values passed down through generations, much like how senior citizens uphold and preserve the essence of India’s culture. Recognizing their invaluable role in society, special Jan Arogya Melas were organized at 500 different locations across the country, focusing on the healthcare needs of the elderly. These free health camps provided crucial medical check-ups, including blood pressure and sugar level tests, along with free doctor consultations. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about preventive healthcare and the availability of affordable medicines through Jan Aushadhi Kendra.

One of the key highlights of the day was the heritage walk at Hauz Khas in New Delhi, led by Chief Executive Officer of PMBI, Shri Ravi Dadhich, along with officials and Jan Aushadhi Kendra owners. The event served as a powerful reminder of the importance of integrating healthcare accessibility with community engagement and cultural heritage.

Currently, more than 15,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras are operational across India, ensuring access to quality generic medicines at affordable prices in every district. The government has set an ambitious target of opening 25,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras by March 31, 2027, further expanding the reach of this transformative initiative.

Inspired by the vision of the Prime Minister, March 7 is observed every year as “Jan Aushadhi Diwas” to spread awareness about the benefits of generic medicines and promote their widespread adoption. As part of the celebrations, a week-long series of events has been planned across various locations from March 1 to March 7, 2025. These events underscore the government’s commitment to ensuring affordable healthcare for all while celebrating the nation’s enduring cultural legacy.
