New Delhi: The first round of vote counting for the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) elections 2025 shows the Left leading across all four key posts on campus. This year, around 9,043 students were eligible to vote, with a voter turnout of 67%, slightly lower than the 70% recorded in the previous election.

Campus Voter Dynamics

The polling day saw a vibrant atmosphere with drums, slogans, and campaign songs across the JNU campus. Students cast votes for the central panel and school councillors between 9 am and 5:30 pm, with a break from 1 pm to 2:30 pm. Seven candidates contested the President post, three for Vice President, and five each for General Secretary and Joint Secretary.

Political observers note that these elections often reflect broader national ideological trends, with the Left Unity and the RSS-affiliated ABVP emerging as the main contenders.

Air Quality Update

Meanwhile, Delhi’s air quality showed slight improvement but remained in the ‘poor’ category with an AQI of 273. Shadipur recorded a ‘very poor’ level of 308. The minimum temperature was 18.4°C, about 3.1°C above seasonal averages, with 89% humidity at 8:30 am, according to CPCB’s Sameer app data.

Upcoming MCD Bypolls

Political parties are gearing up for the November 30 Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) bypolls. Twelve wards are set for elections, and parties like AAP, BJP, and Congress are finalizing candidates. BJP is expected to announce its candidates by November 8, while AAP has appointed ward in-charges and is actively engaging in door-to-door campaigns. The last date to file nominations is November 10, with scrutiny on November 12 and withdrawal by November 15.
