Jordan Crown Prince Who Drove PM Modi: A Profile

RR Team, December 16, 2025December 16, 2025
A simple car ride in Amman became a powerful diplomatic image when Jordan’s Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II personally drove Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Jordan Museum. The moment, shared by PM Modi on social media, reflected warmth, trust and a growing personal rapport between India and Jordan as the two nations marked 75 years of diplomatic relations.
The gesture stood out in a world where protocol often dominates diplomacy. For many observers, it symbolised Jordan’s special regard for India and highlighted the Crown Prince’s reputation as an accessible, forward-looking royal leader deeply engaged in global affairs.

Who Is Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II?

Born on June 28, 1994, in Amman, Hussein bin Abdullah Al-Hashimi is the eldest son of King Abdullah II and Queen Rania. He belongs to the Hashemite royal family, which has ruled Jordan since 1921 and traces its lineage to the Prophet Muhammad.

Named after his grandfather, the late King Hussein, the Crown Prince grew up during a period of significant political and social change in West Asia. He has three siblings and has been in the public eye from a young age, balancing royal responsibilities with modern education and global exposure.

Education and Military Training

Crown Prince Hussein began his schooling in Jordan before completing his high school education at King’s Academy in 2012. He later earned a bachelor’s degree in International History from Georgetown University in the United States in 2016, gaining a strong grounding in global politics and diplomacy.

Reflecting Jordan’s tradition of strong civil-military leadership, he also trained at the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom, graduating in 2017. He currently holds the rank of major in the Jordanian Armed Forces, regularly participating in military exercises and field missions.

Becoming the Youngest UN Security Council Chair

In July 2009, following a royal decree, Hussein was formally named Crown Prince in line with Jordan’s constitutional provisions. He assumed official duties soon after and began representing the kingdom at international platforms.

A defining moment came in April 2015 when, at just 20 years old, he became the youngest person ever to chair a session of the United Nations Security Council. The session led to the unanimous adoption of Resolution 2250, focusing on youth, peace and security — an issue close to the Crown Prince’s vision for regional stability.

Role in Global and Regional Diplomacy

Over the years, Crown Prince Hussein has accompanied King Abdullah II on key diplomatic visits and military missions. He has represented Jordan at the United Nations General Assembly, the UN Climate Change Conferences, and the World Economic Forum, positioning himself as a global voice for youth engagement and sustainable development.

His interactions with world leaders, including Prime Minister Modi, underscore Jordan’s balanced foreign policy and its emphasis on dialogue, moderation and international cooperation.

Championing Technology, Youth and Innovation

The Crown Prince heads the Crown Prince Foundation, an institution focused on education, innovation and humanitarian initiatives. Under its umbrella, a technical university has been developed alongside programmes supporting vocational training, entrepreneurship and scientific research.

He also leads Jordan’s National Council for Future Technology and has supported initiatives in tourism and digital innovation. Notably, Jordan’s first satellite was launched in 2018 as part of efforts to boost the country’s technological capabilities.

Family Life and Personal Image

Crown Prince Hussein married Rajwa Al-Saif in June 2023. The couple welcomed their first child, Princess Iman, in August 2024. His family life, often shared through official channels, has helped shape his image as a relatable and modern royal.

His decision to personally drive PM Modi reflects this style informal yet deeply respectful, and rooted in personal connection rather than mere ceremony.

India-Jordan Ties in Focus

Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Jordan comes as the two nations commemorate 75 years of diplomatic relations. India and Jordan cooperate closely in areas such as trade, defence, education and people-to-people exchanges.
