Plug-in Hybrid Powertrain and SUV Specifications

The Jetour T2 i-DM in India will feature a 1.5-litre plug-in hybrid powertrain, reflecting JSW’s focus on sustainable mobility. Both all-wheel-drive (AWD) and front-wheel-drive (FWD) versions are expected, though the specific variant for India has not been confirmed. The SUV adopts a boxy, upright monocoque design reminiscent of the Land Rover Defender, providing a robust yet modern appearance.
Measuring 4.7 metres in length and 2 metres in width, the T2 offers a footprint larger than the Tata Safari. The Indian launch will feature a 5-seater configuration, while longer 7-seat variants exist in other markets. Pricing is yet to be officially announced, but the FWD i-DM retails for approximately Rs 35 lakh in the UAE.
Strategic Market Entry and Brand Positioning
The Jetour T2 SUV will carry the JSW badge rather than the Jetour brand, establishing JSW Motors as an independent player. Unlike its joint venture with MG Motor India, this launch positions JSW as a standalone automaker with ambitions to expand in the Indian SUV segment. JSW has prioritized assembling the SUV locally to meet domestic demand and capitalize on the growing interest in hybrid vehicles.
Jetour, the Chinese brand launched by Chery in 2018, currently operates in China, the Middle East, Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America. The partnership enables JSW to leverage proven Chery technology while adapting the model for Indian road conditions and consumer preferences.
Competition and Market Outlook
The T2 SUV enters a competitive segment dominated by models such as the Tata Safari, MG Gloster, and Hyundai Alcazar. With its hybrid technology, monocoque construction, and premium positioning, JSW aims to attract environmentally conscious and tech-savvy buyers. Analysts note that local assembly and potential price adjustments could provide JSW a competitive advantage over imported hybrid SUVs.
As India increasingly adopts electrified vehicles, the Jetour T2 i-DM is expected to highlight JSW Motors’ commitment to sustainable mobility, while also expanding the group’s footprint in the passenger mobility sector. More updates on launch pricing and specifications are anticipated closer to Q3 2026.
