In a strong display of unity and shared commitment, Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Shri Jual Oram on Thursday led a high-level interaction with Tribal Members of Parliament and Ministers, reaffirming the collective resolve to accelerate the holistic development of India’s tribal communities. The interaction underscored the government’s focus on inclusive growth, empowerment and dignity of tribal citizens under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

The meeting reflected a rare convergence of political will, policy direction and grassroots insight, with elected tribal representatives pledging coordinated efforts to ensure that development initiatives reach the last mile.

  • Unified Vision Rooted in National Ideals

Reading out a detailed statement, Shri Jual Oram emphasised that the interaction symbolised a shared responsibility among tribal leadership to work in alignment with the national vision of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas. He noted that Tribal MPs are uniquely positioned to bridge policy intent and ground-level implementation.

The Minister highlighted that beyond legislative advocacy, Tribal MPs play a critical role in monitoring execution, addressing local challenges and ensuring accountability in welfare delivery.

Key Schemes Transforming Tribal Regions

The interaction reviewed the impact of several flagship programmes aimed at transforming tribal and Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) dominated regions through saturation-based development. These include PM-JANMAN, Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan, Eklavya Model Residential Schools and strengthened implementation of the Forest Rights Act.

According to the Minister, these initiatives are collectively driving significant improvements in housing, drinking water supply, electrification, healthcare outreach, education and livelihood generation across tribal areas.

Focus on Health, Education and Livelihoods

Special emphasis was laid on ensuring quality residential education for tribal children through Eklavya Model Residential Schools. The Minister also highlighted ongoing efforts to eliminate Sickle Cell Disease, which disproportionately affects tribal populations, through targeted screening and healthcare interventions.

Livelihood enhancement through Van Dhan initiatives and community empowerment through recognition of forest rights were identified as key pillars for sustainable tribal development.

Wide Participation from Tribal Leadership

The interaction was attended by Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Shri Durgadas Uikey and several Tribal MPs, including Smt. Savitri Thakur, Shri Umeshbhai Patel (Daman & Diu), Shri Sukhdeo Bhagat (Jharkhand), Shri Rajkumar Roat (Rajasthan), Shri Manoj Tigga (West Bengal), Shri Amarsing Tisso (Assam), and MPs from multiple constituencies in Odisha.

Senior officials such as Tribal Affairs Secretary Smt. Ranjana Chopra, Joint Secretary Shri Anant Prakash Pandey, Additional Secretary Shri Manish Thakur and Commissioner NESTS Shri Ajit Kumar Srivastav were also present.

Strengthening Convergence and Accountability

The interaction highlighted the proactive role of Tribal MPs in guiding implementation, improving inter-departmental convergence and ensuring that benefits reach intended beneficiaries. Participants stressed the importance of continuous feedback from the field to fine-tune policies and programmes.

There was a shared consensus that sustained coordination between Parliament, ministries and state governments is essential to achieve long-term and equitable outcomes for tribal communities.

Commitment to Inclusive and Sustainable Growth

The collective deliberations reaffirmed Parliament’s commitment to social justice, inclusive growth and the dignity of tribal citizens. The interaction concluded with a renewed pledge to work collaboratively to ensure that development is not only rapid but also culturally sensitive and environmentally sustainable.
