Jyotiraditya Scindia Inaugurates 6 Modern Post Offices in MP

RR Team, January 11, 2026January 11, 2026
Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya M. Scindia on Sunday inaugurated six renovated and modernised post offices across Madhya Pradesh, reinforcing the Centre’s push to strengthen public service delivery and upgrade postal infrastructure. During the visit, the Minister also announced the establishment of a ₹111-crore National Postal Training Centre at Shivpuri, a major capacity-building initiative for India Post.

The announcements were made during Mr. Scindia’s official tour of Madhya Pradesh from January 8 to 11, 2026. As the Member of Parliament from Guna, the Minister reviewed postal infrastructure projects across Shivpuri district and neighbouring regions, highlighting the role of India Post in delivering citizen-centric services in rural and semi-urban India.

Six Post Offices Upgraded Across the State

The Union Minister inaugurated Sub-Post Offices at Kolaras, Jagatpura, Badarwas, Pichhore and Katthamil, along with the City Post Office. Each facility has been renovated to provide enhanced customer amenities and improved digital infrastructure.

The upgraded post offices offer a wide range of services, including mail and parcel delivery, savings schemes, insurance products, digital banking facilities and financial inclusion initiatives. According to officials, the modernised infrastructure is expected to improve operational efficiency and expand service outreach, particularly in semi-urban and rural areas where India Post remains a critical service provider.

₹111-Crore National Postal Training Centre at Shivpuri

Addressing the gathering at Katthamil, Mr. Scindia announced the establishment of a seventh National Postal Training Centre at Shivpuri with an estimated investment of ₹111 crore. The new centre will join existing postal training institutions located in Saharanpur, Vadodara, Mysuru, Guwahati, Madurai and Darbhanga.

The Minister noted that the six existing training centres collectively train nearly 2,000 postal personnel annually and have so far trained close to 18,000 officials and employees. The proposed Shivpuri centre is expected to significantly strengthen India Post’s training ecosystem and place the district on the national map of premier postal training hubs.

Citing the timely completion of the Gwalior airport project as a benchmark, Mr. Scindia set a target of completing the Shivpuri training centre within 8 to 12 months. He directed senior postal officials to ensure swift execution, adding that the foundation stone would be laid during his next visit.

New Speed Post Services Announced

During a programme in Pichhore, the Union Minister also announced two upcoming India Post services—Speed Post 24 and Speed Post 48. These services aim to ensure guaranteed delivery within 24 hours and 48 hours respectively, setting new benchmarks for time-bound and reliable postal delivery.

Officials said the new services would enhance customer confidence in India Post and position it competitively alongside private logistics providers, while maintaining affordability and nationwide reach.

Focus on Modernisation and Last-Mile Connectivity

At Pichhore, Mr. Scindia inaugurated the renovated Sub-Post Office, upgraded at a cost of ₹2 lakh. He also laid the foundation stone and performed the Bhoomi Pujan for a new Sub-Post Office building, to be constructed at an estimated cost of ₹1.11 crore.

The Department of Posts reiterated its commitment to modernising infrastructure, leveraging technology and strengthening last-mile connectivity. These initiatives align with the Government of India’s broader vision of accessible, responsive and efficient public service delivery.

More details about the initiatives can be accessed through official releases on the Press Information Bureau website at pib.gov.in and updates shared by the Minister on social media platforms.
