In a momentous step toward Kathua’s urban transformation, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh and Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Shri Omar Abdullah came together to inaugurate the town’s first Municipal Parking Complex. This long-awaited facility stands as a powerful symbol of progress in a town that, not too long ago, barely had a handful of vehicles. Recalling those earlier days, Dr. Singh nostalgically mentioned a time when just three cars—one each for the DC, SP, and Executive Engineer—roamed the streets. Today, the rising number of private vehicles in Kathua speaks volumes about the aspirations and changing lifestyle of its people.
The event was more than just a ribbon-cutting; it reflected a deeper narrative of how Kathua is rapidly evolving into a modern urban hub. Despite his responsibilities in Delhi, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s presence was seen as a strong affirmation of the Centre-State partnership that is reshaping Jammu & Kashmir. Dr. Singh appreciated this spirit of cooperation, emphasizing how shared efforts are driving the region forward under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a developed India.
The parking complex is one of many transformative projects to emerge in Kathua over the last decade. From the introduction of Vande Bharat trains and upgrades at the local railway station to the establishment of three medical colleges, a Biotech Park, and new Engineering and Homeopathy colleges, Kathua is witnessing a remarkable leap in infrastructure and opportunities. Dr. Singh also highlighted the upcoming Express Corridor that will connect Kathua directly to Delhi within five hours—a development that promises to boost local connectivity, economy, and aspirations.
Yet, alongside growth, there are challenges. Dr. Singh addressed the pressing concerns of drug abuse and illegal mining, urging collective responsibility. He appealed to parents, community leaders, and officials alike to stand together in protecting the town’s youth from harmful influences. “Kathua must no longer be known for these problems. Let it be an example of a healthy, thriving, model town,” he said with heartfelt conviction.
The ceremony also reflected on completed milestones, such as the iconic statue of Maharaja Gulab Singh at the gateway of Jammu & Kashmir, the large stadium supported by BCCI, the Kediyan-Gandyal bridge, and community parks like Birla Park developed under CSR efforts. Dr. Singh extended a warm invitation to the Chief Minister to enjoy these public spaces, which now form part of Kathua’s growing social fabric.
In his closing words, Dr. Singh reminded the crowd that infrastructure alone is not enough; it must be matched with social responsibility and long-term vision. “If our youth fall to addiction, who will drive the cars, serve their families, or take pride in what we’re building?” he asked earnestly. He called Kathua not just a town, but a living testament to hard-won progress and a tribute to the dreams of national leaders like Syama Prasad Mukherjee.
The inauguration of the Municipal Parking Complex is more than just a convenience—it is a milestone in Kathua’s inspiring journey toward a better future, a journey shaped by resilience, collaboration, and an unwavering belief in what the town can become.
