Kerala has confirmed its second case of Mpox after a man who returned from the UAE tested positive for the virus. Health officials stated that the patient, currently hospitalized in Ernakulam, is in stable condition.
This case follows Kerala’s first Mpox diagnosis last week when a 38-year-old man from Malappuram, who had also returned from the UAE, tested positive for the infection. The patient was later confirmed to have contracted the Clade 1B strain of the virus, which was previously linked to the outbreak that led the World Health Organization (WHO) to declare Mpox a ‘Public Health Emergency of International Concern.
State Health Minister Veena George has advised all travelers returning to Kerala to seek immediate medical attention if they exhibit Mpox symptoms. To manage potential outbreaks, the health department has prepared isolation wards in 14 hospitals across the state.
These developments highlight the state’s proactive measures to contain the spread of Mpox and ensure public safety.
