Khelo India Para Games 2025: India’s Top Paralympians Set to Shine in New Delhi

RR Team, March 5, 2025

The Khelo India Para Games 2025 is set to bring together some of the finest para athletes from across the country, with competitions scheduled to take place in New Delhi from March 20 to 27. Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, announced the event, highlighting its significance in India’s growing commitment to para sports.

This year’s edition will feature 1,230 athletes competing in six disciplines—para archery, para athletics, para badminton, para powerlifting, para shooting, and para table tennis. Among them will be several international champions, including Harvinder Singh, Dharambir, and Praveen Kumar, all of whom made the nation proud at the 2024 Paris Paralympics. India’s performance in Paris was historic, with the country securing a record 29 medals, including seven golds. Notably, 25 athletes from the Khelo India program were part of the 84-member Indian contingent, with five returning as medalists.

The competitions will be spread across multiple iconic venues in the capital. The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium will host para athletics, para archery, and para powerlifting from March 21 to 26, while the Indira Gandhi Stadium complex will see intense battles in para badminton and para table tennis from March 20 to 27. Meanwhile, the prestigious Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range will witness top marksmen competing in para shooting events from March 21 to 25.

This marks the second edition of the Khelo India Para Games, following the inaugural event held in December 2023. The initiative is part of the broader Khelo India mission, which aims to nurture sporting talent and provide para athletes with a dedicated platform to compete at a national level. The government’s support for para sports has been unwavering, with 52 athletes already inducted into the Target Olympic Podium Scheme core group for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mandaviya expressed his admiration for the resilience and determination of India’s para athletes. “Their phenomenal rise is a source of inspiration for all sportspersons. This ‘can-do’ attitude is truly motivating, and I am confident that the upcoming Khelo India Para Games will witness some remarkable performances,” he stated.

The Khelo India Para Games 2025 follows the successful organization of another national sporting event—the Khelo India Winter Games. The first part of the Winter Games was held in Ladakh in January, while the concluding segment is set to take place in Gulmarg, Jammu & Kashmir, from March 9 to 12.

India’s investment in para sports continues to grow, offering a bright future for the country’s athletes. As the countdown begins for the Khelo India Para Games 2025, all eyes will be on New Delhi to witness an inspiring display of skill, determination, and sporting excellence.
