In the ongoing investigation into the rape and murder of a doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, the CBI has raised concerns about potential larger conspiracies involving key figures. The agency has indicated that Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of the college, and Abhijit Mondol, the officer-in-charge of Tala police station, might have played significant roles in the alleged scheme.
According to the CBI, Mondol’s response to the crime scene was unusually delayed. Despite being notified of the crime at 10:03 AM, Mondol reportedly arrived at the scene only at 11:00 AM, even though the location was just a five-minute drive away, as reported by The Indian Express.
The agency also claimed that both Ghosh and Mondol attempted to minimize the gravity of the incident. They are now under intense scrutiny for their roles in the investigation’s handling.
The victim was found sexually assaulted and murdered in a seminar hall at the hospital where she had gone to rest after a grueling 36-hour shift.
In related developments, a civic volunteer named Sanjay Roy has been arrested in connection with the case. Ghosh is also being investigated for allegedly delaying the FIR filing and attempting to label the murder as a suicide.
